Medical astrology is one of my
favorite uses of astrology. So often a person can be
greatly helped by some simple changes in their diet.
Most health troubles can be improved by a change in
dietary habits. Habits, especially bad dietary
habbits, unfortunately are difficult to change, so
here are some healthy recipes to help the process.
Along with each recipe I will mention under what
planetary blemishes a particular food should be
eaten with reserve or which planetary blemishes
indicate that a particular food is very necessary.
Ice Cream & Milkshakes
Ice cream is one of everyone's
favorite foods, unfortunately, commercial ice-cream
has several health hazards: First and formost, it
usually contains way too much sugar, twice as much
as is really necessary, but sugar is cheap, much
cheap than other ice cream ingredients and so used
excessively. It contains homogenized milk, which
destroys the circulatory system by radically
increasing bad cholesterol levels. Finally, it is
cold, cold food in abundance is not a good thing.
With natural ice-cream we can get rid of at least
two of the problems of ice-cream, and we can even
get around the cold problem.
To make natural homemade ice
cream, which is better than anything else you will
find is very simple, you just need an ice cream
maker. Cuisinart makes a very affordable ice-cream
maker that is easy to use and does not require salt
of ice. It has a freezer bowl that you freeze and
then pop in the machine to make ice cream in about
25 minutes. The entry level Cuisinart ice cream
maker only costs $60 new, or you can get it on ebay
for $10-20. To make ice cream combine:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup butter milk
1/2 cup raw honey (do not use cooked honey, it is
slightly toxic and has no living enzymes, raw honey
is health producing and houses Soma)
2 cups fresh fruit (strawberries, peaches,
cherries, etc) or vanilla extract, almond extract,
cinnamon or 1 cup fresh mint, etc. Basically, some
flavor.
1 cup cream
Blend everything but the cream, then gently blend
the cream in and throw it in your ice cream maker.
Buttermilk is the key to tasty
ice cream. It gives it a smooth texture. Milk, which
is normally used, dilutes the taste of ice cream and
so requires more sweeteners, and also makes the ice
cream more icy. I use homemade buttermilk because
commercial buttermilk is homogenized, which damages
your arteries (see recipe below). Commercial
buttermilk also contains salt, which makes your ice
cream not freeze as well in the ice cream maker, so
you will have soft ice cream that is not as creamy
and gooey and fun.
The one remaining problem with
good homemade ice cream is that it is still
cold, so it should be eaten in restraint by those
suffering cold disorders such as constipation, weak
lungs, asthma or respiratory allergies, or those who
have Saturn in bad dignity in the Rasi or Trimsamsa
chart. You can get around the cold problem in a few
ways: Eat it early in the day rather than in the
evening. Exercise after eating ice cream. Don't put
it in the ice cream machine, just blend the above
ingredients for a great not ice cold milk shake. Put
cinnamon in or on your ice cream, it makes any
flavor better and warms things up. (Cinnamon is one
of the best foods we can eat on a regular basis to
help with cold problems and is a very good
astringent herb when Saturn is disease causing.) We
always add cinnamon to our ice cream in the winters.
Benefits: Fulfills that
dangerous sweet craving which can cause you to pig
out on junk food when you are not vigilant or
visiting a friend or walking by the donut section in
the grocery store. (Promise your self that you will
make yourself a batch of ice cream when you get home
and do not get the cake at the restaurant.) Fattens
you up if you are exercising a lot - Cream is one of
the best foods for endurance athletes, so improve
your endurance with lots of ice cream. (When I was
training in Texas as a teenager, we decided we would
eat healthier by stopping our daily supper huge milk
shake. Our endurance went way down and on the next
long ride we hardly made it home.) When made with
buttermilk, the bacteria culture in the buttermilk
helps to restore the bacteria in your intestine. The
greatest benefits of healthy ice cream is that it
makes your kids very happy without turning them into
sugared-out monsters the next day.
